Sunday Review - October 5
Here is a brief review of our meeting on Sunday plus a few questions to discuss with your Community Group this week.
We began by singing Holy Holy Holy and Kevin Khoffie and Silvia Ledon read Psalm 8:1-4 and John 3:16-17.
We sang Wonderful Maker and Forever (We Sing Hallelujah).
Matthew read Hebrews 7:22-8:1 and we sang Before the Throne of God Above.
Josh prayed over the congregation and devoted time to specifically pray for two other churches in our area: East End Fellowship and Third Presbyterian Church.
Gene preached a sermon titled Jesus' Preparation from Mark 1:9-13 as part of our new series Son of God: The Gospel According to Mark.
Following the message, we sang All I Have is Christ and worshiped God through our tithes and offerings.
Matthew shared about the launch of the new Connect Desk in the foyer and gave a closing benediction.
After the meeting, we enjoyed our monthly picnic lunch together.
Community Group Discussion Questions:
- If Jesus was sinless, why was He baptized?
- When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, Satan offered Him a "short-cut"--a way to obtain all the kingdoms of the world without the pain of a cross. Why did Jesus refuse this offer?
- Mark tells us that though Jesus was in the desert for forty days, God sustained Him. The same accuser who tempted Jesus also tempts us to despair. How has the Lord provided for you in the past? What is a current "wilderness" in your life in which you need God's sustenance?
- Gene read Isaiah 62:3-5. According to this passage, what is God's opinion of us as we follow His Son? Do you live like you believe it?
