One of my favorite Kingsway traditions occurs annually on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Our church lines up behind a microphone and takes turns expressing gratitude to God for the ways he has blessed us over the last year. I have distinct memories of men, women and children praising God in the midst of the most painful life circumstances. There's something incredibly moving about watching Habakkuk 3:17-18 lived out in person.
"Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no heard in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation."
After the meeting, we share a Thanksgiving lunch together. Few things go together quite so well as giving thanks to God and enjoying good food as a church family. Be sure to sign up in the foyer this Sunday (Nov 15) to bring a requested dish on Nov 22.
